Kevin R. Horton is a trial lawyer whose practice is focused on civil litigation, primarily on the defense of medical negligence claims. Prior to joining Smyth Whitley, LLC, Kevin worked for a large Columbia, South Carolina personal injury firm, where he handled personal injury claims and workers' compensation matters. He has experience handling jury trials, contested administrative matters, appeals, and insurance coverage disputes.
Kevin grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and attended the University of Alabama, where he obtained both his bachelor's degree and master's degree in history. While in graduate school, he taught history courses to undergraduates. He moved to South Carolina for law school, attending the University of South Carolina School of Law. Kevin graduated in 2013. While in law school he was a member of the Order of the Barristers, the Moot Court National Competition Team, and the Southeastern Environmental Law Journal. He has served as a student law clerk at the South Carolina Supreme Court and as a South Carolina Bar Association Public Interest Fellow. Kevin is a member of the South Carolina and Charleston County Bar Associations and is admitted to practice before South Carolina's state and federal courts.
Kevin lives in North Charleston with his wife, Cate, and two young children, Adelaide and James.
